Its taken nearly two weeks and I was beginning to worry that I wasn’t going to get them. Then I got an spreadsheet delivered to my home yesterday night with some cryptic figures. After a few moments I had worked out what I thought the figures meant, but wanted to be sure so called the Doctor today.
In Splenic Lymphoma the two things to worry about are rising Lymphocyte and white blood cell counts or falling red blood cells counts. If you have a lymphocyte count of over 10000 then this indicates a blood disorder, and this was how I was diagnosed. Average for an adult is 1,000 and 4,800 lymphocytes per ML.
They have also said that if you chart the results as time goes by it will show you how quickly things are progressing. If its by 10000 points or so every three months then you are likely to have to worry after it gets to about 100000 or 200000 depending on the patient.
So without further ado…..!
Type of Cell | Average range | June 10th | June 26th | Nov 27th |
Lymphocyte Count | 1 to 4.8 | 10.8 | 10.6 | 9.7 |
White Blood Cell Count | 4 to 11 | 15.4 | 15.4 | 14.3 |
Platelet Count | 150 to 440 | 203 | 203 | 208 |
Red Blood Cell Count | 4.5 to 6.5 | 5.2 | 5.2 | 5.21 |
Neutrophils (white cells that ingest bad cells) | 2 to 7.5 | 4 | 3.9 | 3.4 |
So my Lymphocyte count and White Blood cell count have actually dropped by a point in the last five months! This is excellent news as even though there is normal fluctuation it means I am stable at the moment with no sign of growth.
If I plotted the graph they asked me to and looked at the progression then I would be cured in 4 years…. and in 10 years I’ll have no white cells at all… wait a minute…
Obviously this is not true, but its still very encouraging! That’s six more months in which I can forget about it!
Good news for Christmas!

Great news! I have the same type of diagnosis, and my numbers are a bit higher than yours, but they also went down on my last visit. Merry Christmas and a healthy 2014.
To you as well. always nice to see the numbers going down instead of up!
