Just a quick blog post to reassure. Yesterday they gave me lots of saline, as I was dehydrated. They gave me three types of antibiotics, and some steroids.

They also then worked out that I have heavily ulcerated tonsils, which is the problem has been. The standing antibiotics I keep and took diligently do nothing to stop this, so whilst I waited for them to kick in it got worse. So really yesterday was a result of six days of fever, dehydration, high heart rate and blood pressure and no sleep as well as heavily raised infection markers across the board. Basically my body was taking a kicking day after day.

Last night I slept eight hours at my usual resting heart rate for sleep 52-56 and today it’s not gone above my 59-60 when sitting. Temperature is normal. So I’m already feeling much better. I think my body just needed a break. Now we just wait until the antibiotics kick in, or remain kicked in depending on what the IV cocktail did, and we should be good.

Always fun.

However the NHS was clearly at its best last night. I was in within an hour. Dosed, diagnosed and out within seven. They were all lovely and calm. (There was a man there called Colin who kept trying to leave and I’ve never seen a lady be so patient with him someone. She kept saying. ‘Listen Colin’. ‘Listen.’ ‘you had a fall and hit your head we need to do some scans’ it took her twenty minutes to persuade Colin he needed to go with her, but she kept on and Colin duley went for scans.).

There was also a lady opposite who was with her elderly dad, and their dynamic was lovely. She was really positive and chatty with him and passed the phone to him speak to friends. One was his brother who was loud so I heard him too and he started the conversation with ‘you dead yet you old bugger?’ and the dad laughed and said ‘no I ain’t. I’ll outlive you you sod.’ and they both laughed and the brother said ‘eh, I’ll believe it when I see it.’ which made me laugh and then I had to pretend I hadn’t been listening.

You see the best and worst of people at NHS. (An alcoholic was in too who clearly was near the end. He just kept repeating he’d be alright, he’d sleep it off. I mean he was going to struggle he looked yellow. They decided not to pump his stomach in the end as it wouldn’t make much difference (I was next to the nurses station)). So they were at their best last night. What a great institution.

But I am home and resting. And just need some time for the drugs to kick in I think.
